NCAA: Student-athletes report fewer mental health concerns — "Similar to findings from the online studies conducted in 2020 and 2021, self-reported mental health struggles were more common among student-athletes of color, those identifying on the queer spectrum and those identifying as transgender or nonbinary — population subgroups that commonly display higher rates of mental distress." Read more. 


After a year of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, a lifeline for trans and nonbinary people faces cuts— "The nation’s only mental health hotline designed specifically for — and almost entirely staffed by — transgender people will pause operations for the last two weeks of the year, and will decrease its hours of operation when it returns in 2024. As corporate donations have fallen, the Trans Lifeline has faced a major budget shortfall, leaders at the nonprofit said." Read more.


Combating Anti-LGBTQ+ Pseudoscience – "Helping navigate the perils of anti-LGBTQ+ pseudoscience by analyzing the groups and actors using the language of science to attack the medical consensus supporting LGBTQ+ affirming health care and resources to counter anti-trans narratives and extremism." Read more. 


States Have Become More Polarized on Transgender Civil Rights – "As noted in the 2023 PRRI AVS, partisan dynamics tend to be a large indicator of differences of opinion. On support for restrictive bathroom bills, Republican support has shifted from 44% in 2016 to 80 percent in 2023. By contrast, support among Democrats has remained quite stable with 31 percent supportive of such policies in 2023." Read more. 


Northwestern Medicine to offer 'X' as sex designation option for patients — “Effective Monday, Dec. 18, patients will be able to choose "X" as a sex designation at the Northwestern Medicine's 11 hospitals and more than 200 outpatient sites around Illinois. The designation will be available as part of electronic medical records in the Northwestern Medicine health system.” Read more.
