More than 275 bills targeting LGBTQ rights flood state legislatures — "State legislatures have introduced more than 275 bills targeting LGBTQ rights for 2024 sessions, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) reported Tuesday, signaling an increased focus on LGBTQ rights among conservative legislators in the new year." Read more. 

Utah’s legislature passes transgender bathroom ban – "The bill’s passage comes less than seven years after a similar piece of legislation in North Carolina, HB 2, caused national outrage." Read more. 

More states are pushing to stop legally recognizing trans people in public life — "States across the country are taking new steps to stop transgender adults and minors from being legally recognized in public life. Proposed legislation would prevent trans people from being able to update driver’s licenses, hold public office, use public restrooms, or take shelter from domestic violence unless they do so according to their sex assigned at birth." Read more. 

Ohio Senate overrides governor veto of trans care, sports ban HB 68 — "The Ohio Senate has voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto against Ohio House Bill 68 in a 23-9 vote. This bill would ban transgender minors from receiving gender-affirming medical care and prevent transgender girls from taking part in girls' and women's sports." Read more. 

New Florida Bill Would Effectively End All Legal Recognition of Trans People — "If enacted, the legislation would place Florida among the most oppressive regimes against trans individuals worldwide." Read more. 

Record number of anti-LGBTQ bills were introduced in 2023 — "At least 510 anti-LGBTQ bills were introduced in state legislatures across the United States last year — a new record, according to American Civil Liberties Union data. That’s nearly three-times the number of such bills introduced in 2022 [also a record-breaking year]." Read more.
