Judge blocks California school district policy to notify parents if their child changes pronouns — "The ruling by San Bernardino County Superior Court Judge Michael A. Sachs, who called portions of the policy unconstitutional, came after another judge temporarily halted the policy in September. California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who filed a lawsuit against the Chino Valley Unified School District in August, said the policy is harmful to transgender and gender-nonconforming students." Voter ID laws are disenfranchising transgender and nonbinary people as anti-trans legislation reaches record levels — "Common obstacles to obtaining a state ID include financial constraints, complicated document requirements like birth certificates or Social Security cards, and needing proof of residency. Out of the roughly 414,000 voting-eligible transgender Americans living in states with both voter ID laws and mostly in-person voting, nearly half (about 203,700) do not have an ID that matches their name and gender, according to the Williams Institute." NYCLU Settlement Secures "X" Gender Marker For Nonbinary New Yorkers Seeking Public Assistance — "'This is a major victory for the thousands of nonbinary New Yorkers who will be able to seek public benefits without being forced to lie about their identity or risk being misgendered,' said Gabriella Larios, staff attorney at the New York Civil Liberties Union. 'Offering ‘X’ gender markers lets nonbinary New Yorkers know that their government sees them and honors who they are when seeking food stamps, cash assistance, and other supports to help them get back on their feet.'"
